KMS February Spirit Week

Get ready for another fun spirit week.  As we get ready for winter break let's celebrate all things February.  What will you be wearing to school this week?

Important Drop off Information

When dropping off your student in the morning, please do not park in the drop-off area.  We want to keep the line moving.  Please pull up, drop your student off, and pull away.  If you have questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.

Fundraiser for Open Cafe

Students who participate in Open Cafe on Tuesday and Wednesday are looking to raise some money for snacks and supplies.  Bring in $1.00 or more to send a treat to your friends for Valentine's Day.

KMS Builders Club collecting Cans of Soup

The KMS Builders Club is collecting cans of soup for the Vaughan Food Pantry.  Soup can be dropped off in the bin outside reception.  Thank you!

Learn to Play Volleyball

Kennett High School Volleyball Coach Craig Bartolomei, with the assistance of current and former KHS players, will teach volleyball to all participants for the first two weeks. The third week will include playing games as well as some skills.
This is open to all 6th, 7th & 8th graders at KMS.
If you have any questions about the program, please reach out to Coach Bartolomei at craig@bartolomeilaw.com. To sign up to participate in the Volleyball clinic fill out the form below.

8th Graders Visiting Kennett High School
On Wednesday, March 5th, 8th graders will be taking part in a transition field trip to Kennett High School.  They will get a full tour of the building, as well as have the opportunity to visit and observe six career tech classes.  Students will take a survey ahead of time to match their interests with the classes they wish to observe so the experience will be personalized to meet the needs of each student.   Field trip forms and permission slips will be coming home soon, so be on the lookout.  There will also be a student/guardian information night for current 8th graders at Kennett High School on Wednesday, March 12th.  More information will be coming on that as well!  Any questions- please reach out to Ms. Thornton (a_thornton@sau9.org) or Mrs. McAllister (a_mcallister@sau9.org).

Week of February 3, 2025

Happy School Counseling Appreciation Week!

If you see Ms. Thornton or Mrs. McAllister, be sure to thank them for all they do for our students all year long!

From the School Nurse

It’s already February!  I hope everyone is enjoying some Winter fun!  I’ve

been seeing quite a few kiddos that report not feeling well and after chatting

with them realize that they have not eaten breakfast.  Please remind your

child to eat breakfast every day and how important it is to start the day off

on a healthy note!  A great grab and go alternative could be a healthy

granola bar.  Maybe you can have your child carry a few in their backpacks.

Also, breakfast is available every day at school!

Week of January 27, 2025

Early Release This Week

We will have an Early Release on Wednesday.  Dismissal will begin at 11:20am with buses.  Pick-ups and walkers will be dismissed when buses leave.

Tardy Procedure

as seen in the KMS student handbook

The purpose of our tardy procedure is to develop the importance of responsibility and punctuality. We feel this is an important lesson for you to learn. However, we acknowledge that sometimes circumstances are beyond your control. These procedures are meant to help prepare you for both high school, as well as your life beyond school, and therefore, are designed as an intermediate step between your experience at elementary school and the practices used at Kennett High School.

You are on time for school if you are in your homeroom by the start of school at 7:35 am. If you are tardy to school, you will wait in the reception area until you are issued a tardy slip. If you are tardy, you must have either a note from a parent or we must receive a telephone call explaining the reason for each late arrival. The first two (2) tardies of the quarter will be considered excused, no matter what the reason. Starting with the third tardy, all tardies will be considered unexcused unless you come with appropriate documentation. A tardy will be excused for health/medical related circumstances and other official appointments (i.e. court appearances) when the attendance office is provided with a note from a medical provider or court documentation upon the student’s return to school. All other requests to excuse a tardy will require approval from the principal. After the third (3rd) unexcused tardy during a single quarter, you will receive a lunch detention. For every two (2) unexcused tardies afterward during a single quarter, you will receive an after school detention. When the quarter changes, the record resets back to zero (0) and you start over.

In order to be considered present for the full day you must be in your homeroom by 7:35 am and remain at school until 2:10 pm.

Tardies and Athletic Participation

Please note that as a student-athlete you must be present in school for a full day on the day of any practice, game, or event, in order to participate. You will be considered here for the full day if you meet any of the following:

1. You are actually present for the full day based on the definition above.

2. You are marked Tardy Excused based on the tardy procedure above.

3. You are dismissed and return to school with appropriate documentation.

4. You are dismissed and return for the event with appropriate documentation.

In all other circumstances, you will not be considered present for the full day and therefore not allowed to attend the scheduled athletic event that day per Conway School Board Policy IGDK. If you are a student-athlete and are marked tardy unexcused, every effort will be made to ensure you are able to contact home by 12:30 that day to inform your family of your situation.

Parent Pick-Up Reminders

For parents who are picking up students, please be sure to use the pick up line by the football field. Also, please make sure your student waits until you are in the line, by the football field before getting into your vehicle. We have had a few close calls lately as students are running across the parking lot, dodging other vehicles to try to get to their cars. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

Basketball/Dance Concessions

Concessions are open during basketball games, and proceeds will benefit the club or team working the booth. Additionally, PTO is working at the concession stand to help raise money for new uniforms for our KMS athletic teams. The concession stand will also be open for business at the dance. Money raised will go to the teams for team days and field trips!

We are reaching out for donations of individually wrapped chips, snacks, baked goods, bottles of water, small bottles of Gatorade etc. Any donation you would like to make can be dropped off at the reception desk during school hours. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Swapping Smartphones for Flip Phones

We came across this study that we thought was interesting and want to share it with our families.  The article is about asking 4 teenage boys to swap their smartphones for flip phones.

Upcoming Events
  • Wednesday, January 29 - Early Release Dismissal at 11:20am
