Week of April 28, 2025

 Welcome Back

Welcome back, everyone! We hope you had a restful and fun April break, filled with time to relax, recharge, and maybe even enjoy a bit of spring sunshine. As we return to school, we’re entering the final stretch of the year—a great time to refocus, set new goals, and finish strong. There are lots of exciting things ahead, from projects and activities to events and celebrations. Let’s bring positive energy, curiosity, and teamwork into the weeks ahead. We’re glad to have you back and can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll accomplish!

Teacher Appreciation Week - May 5th - May 9th

We’re excited to celebrate our amazing teachers and staff during our annual Appreciation Week! This year’s theme is “You Set the Bar So High!”  To help us spoil them throughout the week, we’re asking for donations of food and paper.   If you're able to contribute, please take a moment to review the list of needed items and sign up.  All donations can be dropped off at KMS.
We are also gathering messages from students and parents/guardians to show our teachers and staff how much we care and appreciate them.  Please take a few minutes to complete the form below.  We will take these messages and create a display for all to enjoy!  Please complete the form here to send us a message.
Personal Appearance
With the nicer weather coming, here is a friendly reminder of the Personal Appearance Policy.
Students must wear: • Top (shirt, blouse, sweater, sweatshirt, tank, etc.) A top is an item of clothing beyond an undergarment. All tops must be held up by some type of supportive strap or sleeve and must cover the stomach and back. • Bottom (pants, shorts, skirt, dress, etc.) All bottoms must fully cover the buttocks. • Footwear (must have a sole).
Hats and/or hoods may be worn in hallways, cafeteria, and libraries as long as they do not cause disruption or obscure the face (except in religious observance). They may also be worn as a part of a specific program/curriculum/occasion. They are not to be worn during an event, in a classroom, or auditorium.

SPRING SPIRIT WEEK

Get ready for another Spirit Week - what will you be wearing this week?

Is your Contact Information Up To Date?

PLEASE complete your child’s information in our computer system, PowerSchool.  Several students do not have contact information, emergency contact information, and/or health information entered.  There are quite a few students who are from SAU13 who do not have anything completed, and several other students as well.  As you know, when your child is ill and needs to go home you will receive a phone call requesting you to pick them up.  We look up contact information in our computer system to call home.  Please try to have your voicemail set up, listen to the messages, and return the call.  Obviously, we require emergency contact information to be able to reach you if your child experiences an emergency.  We always send a Staff member to ride in an ambulance with a student to the Hospital.  However, we must be able to reach your child’s emergency contact(s) to have someone meet us at the Hospital.   You can log into PowerSchool with the information provided to you at the beginning of the school year to review and/or update your child’s information.  Please call the Nurse (Mrs. Jeffrey) with any new medical information to be sure we have a conversation about the new medical issue.  Feel free to call KMS with any other questions.

New Quarter = Clean Slate for Tardies
The purpose of our tardy procedure is to develop the importance of responsibility and punctuality. We feel this is an important lesson for you to learn. However, we acknowledge that sometimes circumstances are beyond your control. These procedures are meant to help prepare you for both high school as well as your life beyond school, and therefore, are designed as an intermediate step between your experience at elementary school and the practices used at Kennett High School. You are on time for school if you are in your homeroom by the start of school at 7:35 am. If you are tardy to school, you will wait in the reception area until you are issued a tardy slip. If you are tardy, you must have either a note from a parent or we must receive a telephone call explaining the reason for each late arrival. The first two (2) tardies of the trimester will be considered excused, no matter what the reason. Starting with the third tardy, all tardies will be considered unexcused unless you come with appropriate documentation. A tardy will be excused for health/medical-related circumstances and other official appointments (i.e. court appearances) when the attendance office is provided with a note from a medical provider or court documentation upon the student’s return to school. All other requests to excuse a tardy will require approval from the principal. After the third (3rd) unexcused tardy during a single trimester you will receive a lunch detention. For every two (2) unexcused tardies afterward during a single trimester, you will receive an after-school detention. When the trimester changes, the record resets back to zero (0) and you start over.
